Weekly bits
October 09, 2005
- Openoffice dropped X11 support for Mac and decided to go for a native version of it (not NeoOffice/J). Ah and Sun made a huge deal with Google to bring the promise of the web office desktop to reality using Web 2.0 techniques and the OO suite, something they never quite made it with Java.
- Griffin launches iFill. It's cool. Must try.
- Google launches Google Reader at the famous Web 2.0 conference in SF. I still prefer Pluck. In fact I prefer Netnewswire which by the way was just bought by NewsGator.
- Someone disclosed some details about Google Talk's VoIP implementation using XMPP. Something that was on my TODO list.
- SyncroEdit is out and it's Opensource. It's basically BBEdit .. er.. Subethaedit's sharing funcionality for Web 2.0. João Pedro had this ideia before in San Diego's eTech2005 conference.
- Web 2.0 dedicated blogs are popping up everywhere. Some I subscribed are: Ajaxian, Planet Ajaxian, eHub. Applications too, they're sooo many. You browse!
- SAPO launched a Fotobilder's opensource software based photo service http://fotos.sapo.pt. I'm very proud of the team I work with. The service is already a success. We'll be opening the API and webservices to the community very soon.
